
Meet the Poggioreale Sindaco (Mayor) Carmelo Palermo

Mayor Carmelo Palermo was born in Poggioreale to Nicolo Palermo and Rosalia Salvaggio. He is married to Giuseppina Salvato, and they have two children, daughter Ludovica and son Andrea.
Elected to his position in May 2023 by the people of Poggioreale, Mayor Palermo served the town as City Councilor from 2013 – 2018 with focus on Public Education and Social Policies and in 1994 as a City Councilor and Leader of the Council Group in Poggioreale.
In addition to being Poggioreale’s Mayor, Palermo serves part of the week in Rome as a Docent at MIUR: The Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) which is responsible for the country's education system, universities, and research agencies.
From 1994 – 2017, Mayor Palermo also served as a Physical Education teacher and obtained specialization diplomas in the education field, especially with Special Olympics, Dyslexia Association, disability and Psychomotor skills.
From 2011-2013, he worked with Senator Dr. Maria Pia of Castiglione, of the Senate Agri-Food Commission Hygiene & Health.
